Worship Bulletin

Here is this week’s worship bulletin for you to follow along with for October 3, 2021

World Communion Sunday

Welcome & Announcements  This is the Day the Lord has made. Let us REJOICE and be Glad in it!

  • I am back after a couple of Sundays away for some much-needed R&R. I am so grateful for Sally Wiens and Craig Pesti-Strobel for sharing their wisdom and insights with us. It’s good to be back.
  • World Communion Sunday – If you are worshiping with us online I invite you to get some food, break, crackers, so that when we eat the bread together here, you can also do it wherever you are. This will be at the end of the service. Those of us who are here will be given our piece of bread as we go outside. We can get in a circle and all of us whether in person or online can all have it together. Then, we can sing our closing song together.
  • As you make your way outside, you can put your offering in the plate and your spare change or small bills in our collection for the Blessing Box.

*Opening Hymn/Call to Worship   “There’s a Spirit of Love in This Place”

There’s a spirit of love in this place,
There’s a spirit of love in this place.
You can’t see it but it’s there,
Just as precious as the air;
There’s a spirit of love in this place.

Refrain
O alleluia, sing alleluia
We bless your holy name
O alleluia, sing alleluia
There’s a spirit of love in this place

There’s a presence of peace in this room,
There’s a presence of peace in this room.
In God’s tenderness is found
Peace that passes human bounds,
There’s a presence of peace in this room.
(Refrain)

Opening Prayer

We Worship through Our Tithes, Gifts, and Offerings

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise God, all creatures here below;

Praise the Spirit, Holy Spirit!
Alleluia! Alleluia!

Lord, You are more precious than silver;
Lord, You are more costly than gold;
Lord, You are more beautiful than diamonds;
And nothing I desire compares with You.

Communion World Communion Sunday

INVITATION
Christ our Lord invites to his table all who love him,
who earnestly repent of their sin
and seek to live in peace with one another.
Therefore, let us confess our sin before God and one another.

CONFESSION AND PARDON.
Merciful God,
we confess that we have not loved you with our whole heart.
We have failed to be an obedient church.
We have not done your will,
we have broken your law,
we have rebelled against your love,
we have not loved our neighbors,
and we have not heard the cry of the needy.
Forgive us, we pray.
Free us for joyful obedience,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

All pray in silence.

Leader to people:
Hear the good news:
Christ died for us while we were yet sinners;
that proves God’s love toward us.
In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!

People to leader:
In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven!

Leader and people:
Glory to God. Amen.

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING

The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.

It is right, and a good and joyful thing,
always and everywhere to give thanks to you,
God Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
You formed us in your image
and breathed into us the breath of life.
When we turned away, and our love failed,
your love remained steadfast.
You delivered us from captivity,
made covenant to be our sovereign God,
and spoke to us through the prophets.

And so,
with your people on earth
and all the company of heaven
we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

Holy are you, and blessed is your Son Jesus Christ.
By the baptism of his suffering, death, and resurrection
you gave birth to your Church,
delivered us from slavery to sin and death,
and made with us a new covenant by water and the Spirit.
He commissioned us to be his witnesses to the ends of the earth
and to make disciples of all nations,
and today his family in all the world is joining at his holy table.

On the night in which he gave himself up for us,
he took bread, gave thanks to you, broke the bread,
gave it to his disciples, and said:
“Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you.
Do this in remembrance of me.”

When the supper was over, he took the cup,
gave thanks to you, gave it to his disciples, and said:
“Drink from this, all of you;
this is my blood of the new covenant,
poured out for you and for many
for the forgiveness of sins.
Do this, as often as you drink it,
in remembrance of me.”

And so,
in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ,
we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving
as a holy and living sacrifice,
in union with Christ’s offering for us,
as we proclaim the mystery of faith.

Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.

Pour out your Holy Spirit on us gathered here,
and on these gifts of bread and juice.
Make them be for us the body and blood of Christ,
that we may be for the world the body of Christ,
redeemed by his blood.

Renew our communion with your Church throughout the world,
and strengthen it in every nation and among every people
to witness faithfully in your name.

By your Spirit make us one with Christ,
one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world,
until Christ comes in final victory, and we feast at his heavenly banquet.

Through your Son Jesus Christ,
with the Holy Spirit in your holy Church,

all honor and glory is yours, almighty God,
now and forever.

Amen.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done. On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory for ever and ever. Amen.

BREAKING THE BREAD
The pastor, still standing behind the Lord’s table and facing the people, Lifts the bread in silence.
The pastor lifts the cup in silence.

Those in the Sanctuary will be given their bread as they go outside. All are asked to wait until everyone has their bread, and we will eat it together.

(Click HERE to be part of the outside communion experience.)

The following prayer is then offered by all:

Eternal God, we give you thanks for this holy mystery
in which you have given yourself to us.
Grant that we may go into the world
in the strength of your Spirit,
to give ourselves for others,
in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

*Closing Hymn – “They’ll Know We Are Christians by Our Love”

We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord;
We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord;
And we pray that all unity will one day be restored.

Refrain
And they’ll know we are Christians by our love, by our love,
yes, they’ll know we are Christians by our love.

We will walk with each other, we will walk hand in hand;
We will walk with each other, we will walk hand in hand;
And together we’ll spread the news that God is in our land.
(Refrain)

We Will work with each other, we will work side by side;
We will work with each other, we will work side by side;
And we’ll guard each man’s dignity and save each man’s pride.
(Refrain)

All praise to the Father, from whom all things come;
And all praise to Christ Jesus, His only Son.
And all praise to the Spirit who makes us one.
(Refrain)

Choral Benediction – “Rule of Life”

Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can.
